Tantana

The source sounds for Tantana (Turkish: 'fanfare', 'pomp', 'rampage', 'ado') were recorded while rehearsing for a concert in Freiburg, Germany during the Euro 2008 football tournament. On this particular evening, Turkey had beaten Croatia in the quarter finals, and the numerous Turkey supporters in the city took to their cars to create their own improvised, mobile celebratory fanfares.

Tantana was composed in 2011 in the Electroacoustic Music Studios of Bangor University, Wales, UK. It was commissioned by Firstsite and Colchester New Music to celebrate Firstsite’s new building in Colchester, UK and first performed there several times a day from 15 to 31 December 2011.
